How to update Tabulizer from Joomla 3.x to Joomla 4.x

Tabulizer is compatible with Joomla 3.x and Joomla 4.x and PHP 8.x. but it uses a separate version for each of them. Therefore, when you decide you update your Joomla version from 3.x to 4.x you need to follow these steps:

  1. Download the distribution tabulizer_UNZIPME.zip file from www.tabulizer.com and unzip it locally. Under the subfolder tabulizer_UNZIPME/joomla4.x you will find the installation file com_tabulizer.zip for Joomla 4.x.
  2. Go to the plugins manager and disable the following plugins:

    • System - Tabulizer CSS
    • Content - Tabulizer CSS

If you don't do that you will get a Potential upgrade issue warning at the "Pre-Update Check for Joomla 4.x" step.

  3. Do the upgrade to Joomla 4.x with your preferred method.
  4. After the upgrade to Joomla 4.x has been completed, go an install Tabulizer for Joomla 4.x using the installation file you have located previously in the first step (com_tabulizer.zip) on top and the existing Tabulizer version.

  5. Enable the plugins you had disabled in step #2:

    • System - Tabulizer CSS
    • Content - Tabulizer CSS

You are ready to go! Tabulizer should be working as expected and all of your existing data sources and ruleset archives should work normally.

Please note that the Tabulizer editor's button are under the "CMS content"

If you can't upgrade your Tabulizer version, because you don't have access to the backend side of your Joomla 4.x site, due to the errors, you can still upload the files using an FTP client. More specifically, you need to unzip the com_tabulizer.zip file locally and upload the contained folders using the following map as your reference:

{uncompressed com_tabulizer.zip}/admin → {joomla root directory}/administrator/components/com_tabulizer
{uncompressed com_tabulizer.zip}/site → {joomla root directory}/components/com_tabulizer
{uncompressed com_tabulizer.zip}/plugins → {joomla root directory}/plugins
