System Requirements
Tabulizer is available for Joomla and WordPress websites. This page explains the supported platforms, recommended server environment, browser requirements, and optional features needed for advanced data sources.
Supported platforms
Tabulizer is available for both Joomla and WordPress. The Joomla version is designed to support multiple Joomla generations, while the WordPress version is available as a plugin for WordPress-based websites.
Before installing Tabulizer, make sure that your website already runs correctly on a compatible PHP server and that your Joomla or WordPress installation meets the normal requirements of that CMS version.
Available versions
Tabulizer is available for:
- Joomla 3
- Joomla 4
- Joomla 5
- Joomla 6
- WordPress
Platform compatibility summary
| Platform | Availability | Recommended use | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joomla 3 | Available | Existing Joomla 3 websites and legacy installations. | Use the Joomla 3 compatible Tabulizer package. For new projects, a newer Joomla version is recommended. |
| Joomla 4 | Available | Modern Joomla websites using the Joomla 4 framework. | Recommended for websites that have upgraded from Joomla 3 but are not yet on Joomla 5 or Joomla 6. |
| Joomla 5 | Available | Current Joomla websites that need modern CMS support and improved compatibility. | Recommended for most Joomla users when the rest of the website extensions and template are Joomla 5 ready. |
| Joomla 6 | Available | New Joomla websites and forward-looking installations. | Use the Joomla 6 compatible Tabulizer package when your template, extensions, and hosting environment are ready. |
| WordPress | Available | WordPress websites that need advanced tables, charts, visual data layouts, and reusable rulesets. | Use the WordPress plugin package and make sure your WordPress installation, theme, and plugins are up to date. |
General server requirements
Tabulizer runs inside Joomla or WordPress, so the server must first meet the requirements of the CMS version you are using. In addition, the following server configuration is recommended.
PHP support
Use a PHP version supported by your Joomla or WordPress installation. A modern, actively supported PHP version is recommended for better performance and security.
Database
Tabulizer stores configuration, rulesets, data source settings, cached data, and related metadata in the CMS database.
Memory limit
For large tables, file imports, Excel files, remote data sources, and complex transformations, increasing the PHP memory limit is recommended.
Execution time
Large imports, remote data requests, cache rebuilding, and heavy data processing may require a higher PHP max execution time.
PHP extensions
Some optional features may require PHP extensions such as cURL, mbstring, JSON, XML, Zip, GD, or database-specific PDO drivers.
HTTPS recommended
HTTPS is recommended, especially when using remote data sources, contact forms, downloads, memberships, or payment-related pages.
Recommended configuration
| Requirement | Recommended setting | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| PHP memory limit | At least 256 MB recommended for normal use; higher for very large data sets. | Large CSV, Excel, remote data, and cached data operations may need more memory. |
| PHP max execution time | 60 seconds or higher recommended for imports and cache generation. | Prevents timeout errors when processing larger files or remote sources. |
| Upload size | Adjust according to the largest CSV or Excel files you plan to upload. | File-based data sources and import workflows require enough upload capacity. |
| Database permissions | The CMS database user must be able to create, read, update, and delete Tabulizer tables/data. | Required for ruleset storage, data sources, cache, and configuration management. |
| Writable folders | CMS media/cache/temp folders should be writable where required. | Needed for uploads, generated files, cached files, temporary processing, and export features. |
Optional requirements for advanced features
Basic Tabulizer features can work with typed table data and rulesets. Some advanced features may require additional PHP extensions, server permissions, or network access.
CSV and text files
Reading local or remote CSV/text files may require file access permissions and, for remote URLs, cURL or another HTTP-capable PHP configuration.
Excel files
Excel support may require Zip/XML-related PHP extensions depending on the file format and import method.
Remote APIs and JSON
JSON and API data sources may require outbound server connections, cURL, JSON support, and access to the remote endpoint.
External databases
External database connections require the correct PDO drivers, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server drivers, depending on the remote database.
Images and galleries
Image-related workflows may require access to media folders and, in some cases, image-processing support such as GD.
Forms and email
Contact forms and notifications require a properly configured mail system in Joomla or WordPress.
Browser requirements
The Tabulizer administration screens, online wizards, and generated front-end output are designed for modern browsers.
- Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- JavaScript must be enabled for interactive tables, wizards, charts, galleries, calendars, and D3 visualizations.
- CSS support is required for responsive layouts and modern visual styling.
- For the best experience, avoid outdated browsers or compatibility modes.
Performance notes
Tabulizer can work with both small and large data sets. The practical limits depend on your hosting environment, PHP configuration, database performance, and the type of output you generate.
If you plan to use very large CSV files, Excel files, database queries, or remote data sources, it is recommended to test the workflow on your actual hosting environment before publishing it to a live site.
Installation checklist
- Confirm whether your website uses Joomla 3, Joomla 4, Joomla 5, Joomla 6, or WordPress.
- Download the correct Tabulizer package for your platform.
- Make sure your PHP version is compatible with your CMS version.
- Check that your server has enough memory and execution time for your expected data size.
- Enable required PHP extensions for the data source types you plan to use.
- Make sure your CMS database and media/cache folders are writable where required.
- Clear CMS and browser cache after installation or update.
